The project focus to improve Vulnerable Populations lives by providing comprehensive biomedical services working.

The AHADI Project was a targeted initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of Vulnerable Populations and substance users, in Temeke District, Tanzania. This project was designed to provide essential biomedical and psychosocial services to communities that face significant health risks, social marginalization, and limited access to healthcare. By addressing both medical and social challenges, AHADI sought to create a safer and healthier environment for vulnerable populations, ensuring they received the necessary support to lead better lives. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the project was implemented in partnership with Médecins du Monde (MDM). ASUTA played a key role in executing the project by leveraging its experience in public health interventions and community engagement. Through this collaboration, the project aimed to strengthen healthcare systems, promote HIV prevention and treatment, and address the social barriers that prevent vulnerable populations from accessing critical health services.

Improving the Lives of Vulnerable Populations Through Comprehensive Biomedical Services

The primary goal of the AHADI Project was to improve the quality of life for Vulnerable Populations by providing comprehensive biomedical and psychosocial support. It focused on increasing access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care services while also offering sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning and STI screening. In addition, the project worked to enhance community awareness, reduce stigma, and create a more supportive environment for vulnerable people. Another important aspect of the project was advocating for policy changes and engaging stakeholders to ensure long-term improvements in the lives of these populations. As an implementing partner, ASUTA took on a central role in delivering services to vulnerable popultion in Temeke District, specifically in the wards of Tandika, Temeke, and Azimio. Working closely with Sandali Dispensary, ASUTA ensured that both in-house and outreach services were effectively provided. The organization conducted community mapping and needs assessments to identify vulnerable individuals in need of support. Peer Educators and Healthcare Providers played an active role in distributing condoms, offering family planning services, and providing essential HIV/AIDS-related services such as STI and GBV screenings, referrals, and treatment. Through continuous sensitization sessions and awareness campaigns, ASUTA also worked to educate communities about sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and the importance of reducing stigma and discrimination against vulnerable populations. Upon completion, the AHADI Project was expected to create lasting impacts in the communities it served. The project contributed to increased uptake of HIV prevention and treatment services, improved access to reproductive healthcare, and greater awareness of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Moreover, it strengthened collaboration between healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community stakeholders, fostering a more supportive environment for vulnerable populations. By building networks of trained Peer Educators and health workers, the project ensured that these services could continue even beyond its duration. ASUTA reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive healthcare and community empowerment through the AHADI Project. The project not only improved the lives of vulnerable individuals but also contributed to broader public health goals, laying the foundation for a healthier and more supportive society by addressing both health and social issues.
